There is a great deal of misinformation and confusion out there relative to dental x-rays and cancer! The truth is dental x-rays provide a very low dose of radiation compared to other medical x-rays you may have had! In fact, you receive more radiation from natural sources (the sun, air and soil) working or playing outside than you receive from one dental x-ray.
In our practice we use state of the art digital x-rays that provide the lowest possible exposure to radiation. In addition we always cover you with a leaded apron to further minimize your radiation exposure.
X-rays are an indispensable tool for us in diagnosing problems that we may not be able to see with the naked eye. With digital x-rays we can:
– Expose hidden decay
– Discover abscesses, cysts or tumors
– Reveal bone loss
– Locate tarter buildup
– Determine the condition of fillings, crowns, bridges and root canals
So don’t be alarmed by the sensational headlines! We understand your concerns. X-rays are an important part of your dental exam and we take every precaution to make sure your exposure is minimal. If you have any questions discuss them with your dental professional or call the office to set up a time for a consultation.
